Parasite is a live form, which lives on other life forms production. Sometimes parasite even kills it's host, in order to find another one to be sucked dry. Parasites are harmful for they hosts, and do not produce anything to it. 

Because parasites do not have to work for living, they can concentrate on breeding. Parasite does not have to work for living, so it has time to concentrate on fertility. On the other hand, strong increase in parasite population may turn against it, as there is not hosts left for parasites. This means, that there always have to be more hosts than parasites - someone has to produce the energy for the parasites. 

Evolution of parasites halves easily. In the matter of fact, it may even turn to devolution. Parasites are likely to loose the ability to earn they own living. This can mean weaker ability to move, necessary relationship to host and vulnerable to attacks, diseases and even other parasites. Usually parasites die quite soon, if they have to leave their host.
