Freeciv is a freeware version from old Civilization II game. Freeware means, that anyone can download and play it for free. The game is available at Freeciv.org.

But graphics, the game is very close to the Civilization II. In the beginning you have few settlers and your goal is to set up an empire. First you'll have to find a place for your first city and start exploring. While building up a community, do not forget your defence or you'll loose very soon.

The game is as fun as CIV II, and the problems are also same. Before ending the game, managing an empire becomes very heavy. It takes several minutes at each turn to click and click while managing production and units. But after all, definitely something to try out.
